Set almost two hundred years prior to Storm Watcher, The Black Sword Of Xorimahr tells the story of the individuals forced to endure the war Storm Watcher frequently referred to. In particular, the story focuses on two key characters: Maph Toltor, the man whose horrible deeds brought a premature start to the war, and the troubled Malkriss Xorimahr, whose true identity is unknown to all.

The titular sword, a creation of Xorimahr's, seems to have the future of the land at its mercy, for it can eliminate all forms of magic cast upon it. After inadvertently stumbling upon the Sword, Maph gives the feared Human Army a frightening advantage over the land's defenders, never knowing Xorimahr's dark intentions.

Who is really pulling the strings? Which characters are the ones most in control during the war, and which ones are really the pawns?
